Some Of The Foods That Are Dangerous For Your Dog

Educating yourself about the well-being and safety of your pet/s should be a top priority as a pet owner. Often household products or foods that are harmless to us, are seriously dangerous for your pets, especially dogs. So make sure to do your research before you give in to your pet who is probably begging you for some of your food. Dogs love to eat, because who doesn’t? Just be sure to know what is healthy and what is not!

Here is a list of just SOME of the foods you should NOT feed your pup:

-Chocolate: Chocolate contains a substance called methylxanthines. When ingested by pets, methylxanthines can cause vomiting and diarrhea, panting, excessive thirst and urination, hyperactivity, abnormal heart rhythm, tremors, seizures and even death.

-Grapes and raisins: Grapes and raisins cause a toxic affect in dogs. The exact substance that causes the toxic reaction is not yet known.

-Nuts: Nuts, including almonds, pecans, and walnuts, macadamia contain high amounts of oils and fats. The fats in nuts can cause vomiting and diarrhea, and potentially pancreatitis in pets.

-Avocado: Avocados contain a substance called persin. Large amounts might be toxic to dogs.

-Onions and garlic: Onions and garlic in all forms powdered, raw, cooked, or dehydrated can destroy a dog's red blood cells, leading to anemia.

-Coffee, tea and caffeine: Symptoms of caffeine poisoning include restlessness, rapid breathing, heart palpitations, muscle tremors, and fits. Caffeine can be found in cocoa, chocolate, colas, and stimulant drinks such as Red Bull

-Milk and dairy products: Milk and milk-based products can cause diarrhea and other digestive upset, as well as set up food allergies.

-Mushrooms: Mushrooms can contain toxins, which may affect multiple systems in the body, cause shock, and result in death.

-Salt: If eaten in large quantities it may lead to electrolyte imbalances, seizures, and even death.

-Yeast dough: Can expand and produce gas in the digestive system, causing pain and possible rupture of the stomach or intestines.
